Pharmaceutics is the discipline of pharmacy that deals with the science of dosage form design and embraces all facets of the process of turning a new chemical entity (NCE) into a medication that can be safely and effectively used by patients in the community. There are many chemicals with known pharmacological properties but a raw chemical cannot be administered, as such, to the patient and suitably converted into the dosage form.

The Department of Pharmaceutics provides curricular content in the areas of Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Physical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Biopharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical compounding, Industrial Pharmacy, Cosmetic Science and Dosage form design, in Bachelor of Pharmacy and also offers good Theoretical and practical Knowledge for Both D.Pharm and B.Pharm Students, who are trained to face challenges in future advancing into modern pharmaceutical world. With the sophiscated instruments like Tablet Press, Dissolution test apparatus, Brookfield viscometer, Disintegration test apparatus, Compact Tablet Coater, Capsule hand filling machine, Stability and photostability chambers, Tablet hardness tester Monsanto and pizer tester, UV-Spectrophotometer- Double Beam. With major areas of research in Pharmaceutics are different types of drug delivery systems which are aimed to give maximum efficacy after admistration of dosage form.

Department of Pharmaceutics at SJPC is one among the first colleges to have Model Pharmacy in order to train D. Pharm students about layout design of pharmacy, display, dispensing of drugs, cosmetics and interpreting the physicians’ prescriptions by giving proper instructions to the patients about safe use and administration of medications.

Strengths of Department are due to Highly qualified and experienced faculty, Well-equipped laboratory, received grants from RGUHS for research projects, Use of innovative teaching and Instrumental in continuous up gradation of knowledge by providing regular training to students and faculty on advanced instruments and statistical tools. Workshops, Seminars, Webinars, Guest Lectures and Industrial Trips for the students, by the students, for the faculty, by the faculty are arranged by students and faculty at the department and college level. Department organizes Industrial Visits for D. Pharm, B. Pharm students to upgrade the students with current updates about the industrial profession and to provide the knowledge of new modern techniques employed in the industries. Students have visited the reputed Pharma industries which helps to develop innovative ideas among the students for the research. The learning process is supported by a rich and voluminous library with all-time internet facility for students and staff. Our library is supported with vast textbooks, reference books, national/international journals, periodicals and other readable articles online through internet.

Our department enjoys great success in placing our graduates both locally and nationally in government, industry, and academia. And yet the knowledge is an ocean to learn new emerging techniques in pharmacy.
